gm, and welcome to issue #13 of the Bonfire product update! From the Bonfire family to yours, we hope you had a happy holidays.

If you're just joining, this newsletter goes out roughly weekly (as long as we have something worthwhile to say) and highlights new product features, cool use cases we're seeing from around the community, and the occasional drop or giveaway. You can find our past issues here.

🚀 Public Launch

Since day 1 we’ve been solely focused on building, learning, and iterating with you all, trying to better understand what we need to build to support this creator/community renaissance we’re seeing in web3. We know there’s still a ton we don’t know, but we have more conviction than ever in the future web3 will enable for creative communities, and of the ways we can build for and support this movement.

Next week we’ll be publicly sharing our mission, what’s in store for 2022 and beyond, as well as announcing some exciting news. We’d love your support and to celebrate with you all, but more on that in next week’s newsletter 🙂

Product Updates

🏆 Goodbye Rewards, Hello Tiers

Initially, the difference between Store and Rewards was that “Rewards” were things that were unlocked by holding a certain amount of a CC, while the “Store” were items that could be purchased with CCs. However, now that the Store supports both token-gating and listing items for free, Rewards has become a redundant feature. As such, we’ll be leaving the Rewards feature in 2021, sunsetting it as of this week :( if you have things listed in your Rewards tab, we’ll reach out and make sure you have a smooth transition of those items into your Store before saying our final farewell.

However, it’s not all bad news. The bright side is that we’re replacing Rewards with our v1 of Tiers! 🥳 This will enable you to configure reusable tiers (based on creator coin and/or NFT requirements), and more quickly and easily gate things across the platform. This initial version of the feature is creator-facing only, meaning it’s mostly a way to define presets to save you time from needing to manually configure the same gate requirements on every campaign. We have many more plans for tiers in the near future (cross-coin gating for creator collabs, use tiers across Bonfire + Discord, etc), but we’d love to know what you’d like to see from this feature as well - reply to this email and let us know!

🏠 Custom Domains (~2 weeks)

In the next couple weeks we’ll be shipping what is quite possibly our most requested feature to-date... support for custom domains and subdomains are coming to Bonfire! This will enable you to connect any domain you own (e.g. malston.xyz) to your Bonfire page, or have your bonfire page exist as a subdomain (e.g. coin.malston.xyz) if you already have a website hosted at your domain. No more needing to send your community to multiple places to engage with your token. I’ll say it one more time for the people in the back. No more needing to send your community to multiple places to engage with your token! If you’d like to be the first to get access to this feature by helping us beta test, let us know!

Note: This will likely need to become a premium feature at some point, as there is a per-domain cost on our end to support this... But as far as we’re concerned, that’s a problem for another day.

🎨 Page Builder (v1) and Token-Gated Content (~3-4 weeks)

Maybe our second most requested feature since launch has been for token-gated content, and here we have big news too... coming very soon we’re launching the v1 of our web3 page builder, focused on a first use case of token-gated content. In the v1, you’ll be able to create token-gated pages with embeddable audio and video content (think Spotify, SoundCloud, Audius, Youtube, etc), but much more to come here.

This is the first step down a path we couldn’t be more excited about. Paired with white-labeling features like custom domains, we’re evolving from building tools to building homes for web3 communities, and we’re just getting started.

🕵️‍♀️ Fraud & Multi-Accounting Detection (~3-4 weeks)

As mentioned previously, a key focus of ours is on combatting fraud and multi-accounting behavior so we can better protect airdrops and bounties, as well as unlock more use cases around earning. The first major initiative on that front, integrating enterprise multi-accounting detection software, is officially underway. We can’t share too much on the specifics (the fraudsters are always lurking), but in short, we expect this to make it thoroughly unenjoyable to try and game your drops. No fake friends ❌

Note: in the meantime, if you notice any funny business on one of your drops, please reach out and we’ll make it right :)

🎄 Oh, and one more thing...

For Xmas, Santa brought me my very own creator coin, $MATT 😁 I’m keeping it a bit on the DL as I plan out the first couple of use cases (going live in a couple of weeks), but the gist is that I intend to use $MATT to test ideas and experiment with new use cases around social tokens, and hopefully help push the space forward alongside you all. An added bonus is that it’ll help our team more properly dogfood our product, which should mean we ship better features and catch bugs more quickly.

It’s been truly incredible and inspiring getting to build for and with you all this year, so I wanted to share a token (pun v much intended) of my appreciation.
